Hi all , just wanted to post the fact that Georgia is feeling somewhat better. We went to the vet today for a dressing change. When the dressing came off the wound looked pretty good to me. There are a lot of stitches and a lot of dried blood under the bandages but no inflammation and no infection. She was a good as gold throughout the process. The vet did vitals on her and all was well. He re-wrapped her and then we went over the entire surgery. It sounded gross. He said that the tumor was a Haemangioma, lots of 'wild' blood vessels all intertwinned in the muscle tissue. When he was trying to get the tumour off she started to haemorrage and started to crash. He had to just tie off the vessels and take the entire leg. All the way off. He had to sort of overlap the muscle tissue and reclose the wound. He had to surture the muscles to the skin from the outside as he had to close her up quick. Then he applied the dressing in a compression sort of way and then hope for the best. She had two bags of fluids to replace her blood loss. All in all she came out pretty good. The vet gave me more Arnica for the pain and swelling and that has done the trick because she has no swelling left to speak of and she seems to have less pain than before. She is remarkable because the first day home she got up and went outside down three steps by herself to pee. At first she refused to go up the steps but now does it no problem. When we came back from the vet we all went for a nap upstairs. She went right up the stairs with me beside her for support. She acted like she had done it all her life. What a wonderfull dog. I think that she will be back to her normal self by summer.

Poor thing, I have heard it is like that for dogs. I wonder if she will have phantom pain?? It's nerve tingling that feels like fingers and toes that aren't there anymore. In humans they wrap the muscle around the end of a stump, helps it heal faster and protects the exposed area. is her shoulder gone too or just below that?
I am curious because I have an amputated bone (Inside the left arm- can't see only one bone) and have worked with a few kids who have amputations. the muscle flap will help her shoulder so it doesn't atrophy and help her keep balance as she flexes those chest and shoulder muscles.

She sounds a stoic girl...I so admire dogs with courage.Chelsea is such a dog too,and believe me this really got her through her tough patch with Proteus.
What a trooper Georgia has been through this ordeal,it sounds like she will come through with flying colours.

Good, better, best never let it rest. (Sainted mammy's expression for dog keeping. *G*) Excellent that lovely Georgia is doing so well. Get a load of this- a three legged agility dog and get a load of that coat and that happy expression on the mug. Georgia and Zoom, carry on. By Spring you all will be in clover. Wonderful, resilient Poodle, wonderful and caring owner- that's it, yep! All fond wishes and continued happy vibes and good juju for you two.
