Default More Gryphon

So after a month and a half on the prescription diet, Gryphon was still peeing all over the house. No longer small bloody puddles, but more along the lines of lakes. In my entryway. So back to the vet he went. The first stay, they had an emergency sock removal surgery and didn't get a chance to re-do the ultrasound to look for stones. SO, the vet said that if he was still having problems with peeing all over, it was almost certainly still stones and the only recourse was to surgically remove them. Despite my better judgment (I really should listen to the Mommy Voice sometimes) DH and I decided to go ahead with the surgery. The result: The only things she was able to flush out were about the size of a grain of sand. Not even enough to send out for analysis.

So now, Gryphon is locked in the laundry room until we can figure out how to go about this. DH steam cleaned the entry way and is very thrilled that he no longer smells cat pee as soon as he walks in the door. We bought a new litter box and have it filled with a mix of his old litter and a new clay litter. There was very little mess in it last night, so I took the door off the front of it (he doesn't like doors much...but that's another, more entertaining story.) There was litter on the floor this morning, so I know that he has at least been in the box. I didn't check for mess, though, because the baby was in there with me while I was giving Gryph his meds.

So now I'm trying to figure out how to go about this so that he can have access to the house again, but not to pee everywhere. Once I'm sure his belly is healed, should I start letting him have short bouts of freedom? Then hope that I can find him to lock him back up?

I'm also trying to figure out how much longer to give it before I just give up and send him back to the rescue. :-\ Honestly, it's been kind of nice being able to leave bathroom doors open and to not have to clean up any pee or cat puke (just dog poop, but again, another story!). And the boys have not seemed to notice his absence nearly as much as I thought they might. Trystan was quite happy to see him this morning but...missing him? Not that I've noticed.

I would call rescue now. Tell them you are ready. Goodness knows you have tried with this boy. it may be just a change in environment will be helpful to him, letting him start all over.

Sorry, you did give it your all with him.

If he isn't fixable why return him to rescue, why not kindly put him to sleep? If he is that medicaly upset wouldn't it be kinder to end it then to bounce him around? I dont know the entire story but fromt he other post it sounds like you really have been trying very hard to help him. Is he a declawed kitty? Sometimes they have special needs as well.

Sorry it's been such a burden to you, I can only imiagine how helpless you feel with him.

Good luck. Many prayers something postive will happen.

It actually worked out, finally. We changed his litter and kept him in the laundry room for several weeks. He has run of the house again. I still don't have any welcome mats or rugs in my house, but he hasn't been peeing on anything lately! Rynna, however...she's another story. Frickin' dog.
